Has your block formed a Neighborhood Crime Watch?
If not, join the hundreds of Coral Gables
citizens who have formed Crime Watches in their neighborhoods in order to
ensure a safer community.
What is a Neighborhood Crime Watch?
It is a group of citizens who get to know and look out for each other. It is
the old fashioned idea of being a good neighbor!! It is also being the "eyes
and ears" of the Coral Gables police. As good as our police department is, the
officers can't be everywhere at once. The residents need to form a partnership
with the police in order to have a crime free neighborhood.
How to get Started!
Get together with some of your neighbors and decide to form a Neighborhood
Crime Watch. Once you have a chosen Block Captain, contact the Crime Watch
office at 305-441-5760 to schedule a convenient day, time, and location for the
meeting. Fliers announcing the upcoming meeting will be delivered to the Block
Captain for distribution to the neighbors. That is all you have to do! The
Crime Watch meeting will be facilitated by a certified crime prevention
specialist from the police department. You will receive information on personal
safety, prevention of car theft and fire safety. The Executive Director of
Citizens Crime Watch will explain how to establish a successful Neighborhood
Setting up the Neighborhood Network
A telephone chain will be set up, based
on the attendees at the meeting. The chain allows the neighbors to stay in
touch and exchange important information. Updated quarterly crime statistics
for your immediate area can be obtained by the Block Captain from the
Crime Watch office and disseminated through the telephone chain. Quarterly
newsletters will be distributed to all Crime Watch neighborhoods as a
means of communication between the residents and the Crime Watch office. Our
web site bulletin board will be constantly updated with information affecting
all Crime Watch neighborhoods. If requested, the Crime Watch signs will
be installed in strategic locations as an effective deterrent to crime in your
area.
